AbbyLUG recently had the opportunity to participate in a fundraiser for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. AbbyLUG was approached by the SMHF to build a replica of the new Critical Care Tower in Surrey. This amazing Lego creation by Lee Wager was successfully auctioned off for a grand total of $4500! Thanks to Lee for taking the lead on this wonderful project. Read more about the build from the Langley Times here.
Calling all Lego space fanatics – if you didn’t have the opportunity to check out AbbyLUG’s tribute to Lego space through the decades, now is your chance! See if you can name all of the Lego space themes represented here.
If you like this build, look for an even bigger and better space display from AbbyLUG at the Chilliwack Train and Hobby Show coming up in October!
This was our first year being involved in the BC Homeschool Expo at Tradex in Abbotsford, and it was a great success! We enjoyed being a big part of the Fun Zone, providing kids an opportunity to build Lego creations of their own, as well as displaying many of our own creations and favourite official Lego models. From my informal polling, fan favourites included a Lego Snoopy house by Christian, complete with a brick built Snoopy and Woodstock, a modified Lord of the Rings Pirate Ship Ambush by Adele, and a fabulous Castle MOC by James.
The kids really got into the Lego spirit with some impressive teamwork in the Duplo area as well as many creative solo projects at the Lego System free build tables. Thanks to all the participants for their enthusiasm and we hope to see you all again next year!
We will be at the BC Home School Expo at the Tradex in Abbotsford this Friday, June 6th from 10am until 5pm. If you are planning to attend, come and say hi to us and build us something cool! Hope to see you there!
We have now successfully launched our AbbyLUG forum site! We are very excited about this. If you get a chance to stop by the Lego store in Guildford Mall during the month of March, be sure to check out the Community Display Window. Fellow AbbyLUG member James and I are proud to present our Legends of Chima themed creation featuring the Croc and Lion tribes preparing to do battle. We had a lot of fun building it and I think it shows! Click the link below for pictures, and keep checking back every month at Guildford Lego Store for a new display.
The Lego Movie is out in theatres today, and yesterday I had the privilege of representing AbbyLUG on Breakfast TV in Vancouver to talk about the Lego Movie and the joys of being an Adult Fan of Lego! I was in the distinguished company of Lego Certified Professional Robin Sather and Paul Hetherington, AKA The Brick Baron. We had a great time showcasing our creations!
Make sure to get out and see the Lego Movie – there is plenty for Lego enthusiasts of all stripes to enjoy, particularly all the shout outs to the AFOL community. Enjoy 🙂
Watch for us on Breakfast Television on February 6th. To find out why we are there you will have to tune in!
We are getting back into things after the Holiday at AbbyLUG. We are looking to be at more events this year and hope you will see us around more. This is going to be an exciting year for us. as events become known we will be sure to post them. See you soon!!
The Chilliwack Train Show held October 19th and 20th was a great success. We had fun collaborating with the Vancouver LEGO Club on a large train display. Over 1500 people came by to see all the displays at the show. And to top it off, we were voted “best display” by the spectators! Can’t wait to go back again next year!
